Sharing AI conversations with your instructor

When an instructor asks to see the AI conversation that produced your work, sharing the chat is now routine. Most major platforms support a share function that produces a read-only link to the conversation. This is the strongest form of disclosure: it lets your instructor see what was actually asked and what was actually returned.

Note: platform menus change often. The general method below is stable. If a specific menu has moved, look for “Share,” a share or link icon, or “Export” in the conversation, and check the platform’s own help pages.

General method

1. Open the conversation you want to share.
2. Find a Share control (often a link or upload icon near the top of the conversation, or in a “more options” menu).
3. Create a read-only link to the conversation.
4. Copy the link and submit it where your instructor asked (assignment portal, email, or alongside your disclosure statement).

Before sharing, re-read the conversation and avoid sharing anything private or restricted.

By platform

• ChatGPT: open the conversation, use the share control to create a read-only link, and copy it. A shared link typically shows the conversation up to the point you shared.
• Claude: use the conversation’s share option to generate a read-only link to the chat.
• Gemini: use the share or export option on the conversation to create a shareable link.
• Microsoft Copilot: use the share option on the conversation to create a link.

If your platform has no share function, an alternative is to export or copy the conversation into a document and submit that, clearly labeled.

If you cannot share

Some tools, accounts, or institutional settings do not allow sharing. In that case, use the fuller disclosure template (students/disclosure-templates.md) and be ready to walk your instructor through the conversation directly.
