Course case studies
Complete courses designed with the framework end to end: the design decision that comes before any policy, the syllabus AI-use language, representative assignments with their categories, the exam, and the reasoning behind each choice.
These extend the assignment templates and assessment models in instructors/,
which give the pieces separately. A case study shows the pieces fitting together into one coherent
course.
Case studies
- Introductory numerical analysis (
numerical-analysis.md). A first course for senior undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Syllabus AI policy, three representative assignments spanning No AI, AI as Tutor, and AI as Collaborator, an in-person closed-book exam, and the grade weighting with its rationale.
This is the first case study. Others are planned as the framework is used across more course types.
How to use these
Read one for the reasoning, not as a template to copy. The course will not be yours, but the sequence of decisions transfers: decide what students must be able to do unaided before writing any policy, label each assignment so its category is unambiguous, and make sure at least one assessment shows competence without AI.
